He introduced the concept over 40 years ago in Japan. For a long time he had to battle against the belief that exercising was not beneficial for pregnancy. Dr. Tanaka could counter-proof this idea with his research and experience. In addition, he has gained insights on the positive effects on both future mother and baby when it comes to exercising. He continues to present his (ongoing) research in the academic field and advocates for a healthy lifestyle for the future Japanese mothers, which includes a balanced diet as well as exercising.
In 1986 he has founded the Japan Maternity Fitness Association (JMFA). The association promotes exercising during pregnancy for both mental and physical fitness. It trains new instructors and organises classes in various clinics and hospitals throughout Japan. Mom in Balance Tokyo is proud to partner up with the JMFA. We are planning to co-organise an event in the near future. Stay tuned!
